Too many cooks spoil the broth. Part 8 of Core 9 questions…

Day 9

People are having lots of great ideas. That’s not the problem!

The problem is that too many great ideas cancel each other out.

If you feel like you are susceptible to this then this post is for you.

Mark Zuckerberg delayed learning Chinese until Facebook was at a level which he was happy with. This is wise. An avalanche is much more likely to smash the target than hundreds of small snow balls.

I propose having one overarching goal for each of the three spheres in your life.

Breandán O’Murchú who was the fastest Northern Irish marathon runner in 2016 says that he keeps each of the three spheres moving at the same time. Work, extracurricular and family.

For each of these three you should set one priority goal (JUST ONE). For example – receive 4 out of 5 on my annual work performance review, excel at acting in a play for extracurricular and reconnect with my brother/sister/cousin/old friend…

Each week you then have a benchmark to move back to if you find yourself cruising aimlessly.

Personally, I like a key 3 system. Having three tasks each week to help me to my priority goal. Examples from above priority on acting could be to ask the director of the play am I acting as he/she likes in that scene. Then, master my lines in act one scene one and finally, send an encouraging message to ‘x’ actor as I feel they are low on confidence presently.

Happy Saturday and hope you find this helpful. Make sure to ask yourself the questions at the top and to write down your thoughts unfiltered to help reach an optimal solution.
