A True Leader: John Wooden

John Wooden was the Head Coach of UCLA’s basketball team for 12 years (1948–1975). In this period he won 10 NCAA national championships, including a record seven in a row.

His TED Talk is a must watch for any aspiring coach or mentor. Learn the importance of leading with integrity.

An admirable man who insisted on his student athletes putting education first.

I really enjoy his coaching rules and will look to emulate them when I manage a team in the future:

  1. Never be late. We start on time, we close on time.
  2. One word of profanity and you are out of here for the day.
  3. Never criticize a teammate. That is the coach’s job.
